Kamala Harris’ Office Unlikely to Develop Crypto Policy Before 2024 Elections

Vice President Kamala Harris’ office is in ongoing talks with cryptocurrency industry representatives but is not expected to develop detailed crypto regulations before the November 2024 elections, according to sources cited by CoinDesk.

One of the participants in these discussions is Coinbase’s Chief Legal Officer, Paul Grewal, who acknowledged the progress Harris’ team has made in understanding the sector’s needs: “All we need are sensible rules, and we’re ready to comply. Their understanding of what the industry and crypto investors require from a potential Harris administration is becoming more sophisticated. But these processes often take longer than any of us would prefer.”

Grewal also suggested that Donald Trump’s team is likely engaging in similar discussions with the crypto industry. The talks are happening at the highest levels, a source told CoinDesk.

However, Grewal emphasized that expecting Harris’ team to introduce a comprehensive regulatory framework for crypto in such a short timeframe would be “unrealistic.” He noted that the crypto community will need time to adapt to any new rules, which are not yet fully developed.

An insider familiar with the discussions added that Harris’ references to crypto in her speeches to donors are a “wink” to the crypto community, signaling that their calls for regulatory reset have been heard.Шт
