Delphi Ventures has made a significant investment in Gunzilla Games, the developer behind the upcoming game Off the Grid (OTG). While the exact amount remains undisclosed, the investment marks the firm’s largest foray into the gaming sector.
Off the Grid is a AAA third-person shooter with Battle Royale elements, featuring a unique player-driven economy and full ownership of in-game assets. The game’s integration of the Avalanche GUNZ blockchain with the NFT marketplace OpenSea enables players to trade in-game items, unlocking new monetization opportunities.
Pierce Kicks, a partner at Delphi Ventures, shared his enthusiasm for the game: “Having spent around 7,000 hours playing shooters throughout my life and over 60 hours in Off The Grid, I can confidently say it’s one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had.”
Kicks emphasized the potential of cryptocurrency to enhance user acquisition, retention, and monetization. According to him, Off the Grid will be the first blockchain-based game to launch on both PC and consoles within the next 30 days.
The game’s development team, composed of former members of Crytek Kyiv, previously created Warface, which amassed over 140 million players and generated $1 billion in revenue. The team has also contributed to acclaimed titles such as Far Cry, Crysis, and CRYENGINE.
“We believe the global launch of Off The Grid will attract a massive audience. Our team has spent the last few months diving deep into Gunzilla’s ecosystem and getting to know its developers. We are confident that OTG represents the best opportunity for the industry to onboard the next 50 million users into the crypto ecosystem,” Delphi Ventures concluded.
