Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko, speaking at the TOKEN2049 conference in Singapore, announced strong demand for the new Solana Mobile smartphone. According to Yakovenko, the company has already received over 140,000 pre-orders from 57 countries for the new device, Solana Seeker. This news coincided with the official unveiling of the smartphone at the conference.
First introduced in early 2024 as Saga Chapter 2, Solana Seeker has captured the attention of investors and crypto enthusiasts with its integrated Web3 features and enhanced hardware. By February, pre-orders had surpassed 100,000, and following TOKEN2049, the number reached 140,000.
During the official announcement, key features of the Solana Seeker were revealed: the device will be lighter, with a brighter display, improved camera, longer battery life, and a more affordable price. It will also feature the specialized Seed Vault wallet for enhanced security of crypto assets.
Initially, Solana Seeker was priced at $450, but the price has since risen to $500. Compared to the original Saga, which launched at $999 before being reduced to $599, Seeker offers a more competitive price point. While Saga experienced slow initial sales, demand increased following airdrops for owners from several projects, including Drift Protocol, Solend, Helium, and MonkeDAO.
Solana Seeker is expected to hit the market in mid-2025. Yakovenko hinted that owners of the device could anticipate new airdrops from various projects associated with the Solana ecosystem.
Solana Mobile’s head, Emmet Holier, who joined Yakovenko on stage, provided more details about the Solana Seeker. Key features of the device include:
- Seed Vault — an integrated crypto wallet developed in collaboration with Solflare, offering fingerprint authorization and double-tap transaction confirmations.
- Updated dApp Store — a decentralized app marketplace with exclusive offerings.
- AI agents — a new service from Alethea AI, allowing users to create AI-powered agents that can interact with dApps and other platforms.
Owners of the Solana Seeker will receive several bonuses, including four months of free coverage from Helium Mobile, as well as access to Moonshot and DEX Screener platforms, which are tailored specifically for the new device. Each buyer will also receive an SBT token, the Seeker Genesis Token, which will grant access to VIP features and additional rewards.
Solana Mobile hinted that customers who place pre-orders before September 21, 2024, will receive an additional token, though details have yet to be disclosed.
