AI startup SSI raises $1 billion to create secure superintelligent systems

Safe Superintelligence (SSI), an AI startup co-founded by former OpenAI employee Ilya Sutskever, has raised $1 billion in investment from leading venture capital firms including Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, DST Global, SV Angel, and NFDG. The company has an ambitious goal to develop artificial intelligence systems that far exceed human capabilities while ensuring their safety.

According to Reuters, the funds raised will be used to increase computing power and expand the team. SSI plans to build a small but powerful team of researchers and engineers, focusing on people with extraordinary abilities, regardless of their degrees or previous experience.

AI security is becoming an increasingly relevant topic, given the concern that uncontrolled artificial intelligence could threaten the interests of humanity. SSI is committed to preventing possible harm that could arise from unintended actions of such systems.

Although the company declined to comment on its valuation, sources say that SSI is currently worth about $5 billion.
